“The doors on the bus goes open and …”

Jay is into his singing songs out loud stage.

He absolutely loves to belt out songs. Anytime. Anywhere. Particularly in public locations.

He loves to sings “I’m a little teapot” and “Twinkle twinkle little star” and Barney’s “I love you” and “Oh
Mr Sun”…

One of his loves has got to be The Wheels on the Bus. He watches different variations of this on Youtube, on my iPad.

image

Once, we were in a lift, and the doors accidentally closed on someone trying to exit.

Jay looked at me and ask what happened.

My brain was probably still sleeping. I don’t know how else to explain what I explained to Jay.

But I told him, “Oh, the doors giap-ed the uncle.”

Sigh. Giap-ed?!?! I could have slapped myself.

Jay: “Why the doors giap-ed the uncle?”

Double sigh. It would figure Jay would pick up that word instantly.

Mommy: “Maybe because he walked too slow?”

The conversation had a few more “Why? Why? Why?” from a quizzical 31-month-old, and a few half-hearted replies from a stumped Mommy.

But at the end, Jay never fails to remind me of my verbal boo-boo.

Now when he sings The Wheels on the Bus…

And when he comes to the part when the doors go open and shut, he sings with great gusto, complete with hand actions too!

The doors on the bus goes open and giap the uncle,
open and giap the uncle,
open and giap the uncle.
The doors on the bus goes open and giap the uncle,
all day long!

Look at your insurance policies carefully!

I have a good friend who recently found out she had cancer, and even underwent a mastectomy. Definitely not the easiest time in her life.

And to make matters worse, her insurance provider denied her ANY insurance coverage.

How. Absolutely. Horrible.

That is ZERO compensation for her three policies, all of which claim to cover cancer. But apparently, she discovered the cancer too early. Go figure. So only Stage 1 cancer’s claimable. Boohoo if you managed to nip the cancer at Stage 0.

Nope, it doesn’t become easier…

Practice makes perfect.

I’d like to believe that.

Why, I used to believe that.

How it takes hard work and effort and practice, and things’ll work out right.

Well, I still do believe in this.

For work and play.

But for parenthood?

We rewrote the manual. I’ve been a parent for more than two years. You’d think I’d be a mini-expert in this. That nothing could possibly faze me.

But who would have known?

Sleep deprivation still sucks.

Yes. Even after more than two years.

Yawnz.

A boy and his daddy…

There once was a fly.

Which landed on Father’s forearm.

image

A little fascinated boy saw that fleeting fly.

Focused on it for a while.

Before the fly flew off.

And that fascinated fella turned to his father…

Firmly and formally informed the father,

“Daddy, you must bathe ok?”

I’m baaaaaaaack!

From a three day break!

Totally bushed now… Pardon me while I go and take a break from my break…

Day Out! Marina Bay Sands!

This Saturday was a special one, as one of my mom’s friends offered us a night’s stay at Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

I am totally bushed, reached back home only at 10.30 p.m., and Jay promptly “concussed” on the bed!

Here’s a peek into this beautiful hotel!

image

As you can see, Jay wanted to make himself real comfy!

image

Must be something about that wood…

The famed infinity pool. Surprisingly empty… cos there was a slight downpour. When we went up slightly later, it was JAMMED packed with bodies!

image

The gorgeous hotel room with that tub. Sigh. No chance to try it out this time round, unfortunately!

We had a blast, coupled with the fact we managed to catch some awesome fireworks from the comfort of our hotel room! Too tired to post up the photos/videos now… Read again tomorrow!

Gourmand in da making

Warning, this blog post is not for parents who are particular about the kinda food their kids take.

Cos, ya know, I am not that kind of a mommy.

In fact, I am pretty blase about the kind of stuff Jay eats. I still do make sure he eats proper meals, with his meats and veggies, along with fruits after meals.

But it’s the snack-time.

I am pretty cool about it.

Which explains his great love for chicken wings…

… and his adoration of chocolate ice-cream.

Abstract Art

Jay loves the Drawing Pad app on my iPad. Me? I am glad he is expressing his creativity.

He sometimes tests our drawing skills by asking us to draw him a purple elephant or a pink lion or a blue tiger.

This is Jay’s abstract art.

image

Can you see what it is?

The pink is the elephant’s trunk. He even tried to “colour” it in!

And the brown dots?

It represents the elephant splashing water with its trunk.

Hahaha! Such an amusing photo by my little fella!

Red and white, and all things nice…

Many schools all around Singapore probably had their National Day celebrations this morning, and Little Big was no exception. I went over to the school at about 11 a.m. and managed to catch some of the “festivities”!

Of cos, late last night, I was in a mild state of panic.

Jay got to wear red and white?!?!

Oh gosh!

The only red or white tops I remembered were those I got him during Chinese New Year. A bit too cheena for this season. But you see, that is why online shopping rocks.

Cos I got him this tee-shirt from Asos.

This is my version of Singapore wear.

Don’t judge me, I’m a first-time Mommy! White and red, ya know!

Hahaha…

Well, the kids had loads of fun, watching some past NDP parades on the big screen, and a special treat…

IMG_1954

The teachers did a special “Jelly” version of the Singapore flag! You could hardly tear the kids away from this “cake”! Small flags were also given to each kid, and they all took turn to stick them into the Jelly!

I ain’t no photography genius, but these gorgeous looking kiddos sure make my life easier! Check out some of Jay’s friends!

fren

Jay totally enjoyed having me in school today. I could hear him calling “Mommy, come here.” “Mommy, see this.” “Mommy, do this.” And compared to his other classmates, he is so talkative!

Ms Yun: “Children, sit down please.”

Jay: “We are all sitting down… Only Ansel never sit down.”

Ms Yun: “Can you please tell Ansel to sit down?”

Jay: “Ansel sit down on the chair now.”

Jelly-time.

Ms Yun asking the class: “What colour jelly do you want? Red or white?”

Jay (the ONLY one who replied her): “Hmmm…. I want RED! I want RED!”

In the span of less than five minutes…

Jay: “Mommy, this is Amber. The pink one. This is Nicolas. The yellow one… See? Oscar the grouch, he is inside the dustbin… I want to eat ham. Where’s the ham? I cannot see the ham. I want ham. I like ham.”

Oh and he went on and on and on! And I could hardly hear a peep out of his classmates!

My little chatterbox…

YOG Visa Prepaid

You’ve probably seen Lyo and Merly around town.

They’re the mascots for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, to be held right here in sunny Singapore from 14 – 26 August 2010. And to mark this awesome event, DBS has launched a special Youth Olympic Games Visa Prepaid Card, with what else, but Lyo and Merly, as the face to it.

image

After getting hold of this card, I showed Jay, knowing he’d be excited to see the cute mascots.

IMG_1918

Maybe it was too much to hope he’d give me some heart-warming shot.

Soon, he decided sitting on the card was much more fun.

IMG_1919

So I decided to go for an easier model.

IMG_1922

Bear-bear was much more accommodating…

Well, unlike other credit cards, to get your hands (or paws, in the case of Bear-Bear) on this prepaid visa card, there is no minimum income or age requirement. Topping up the card is also a breeze, with numerous options to do so, via the DBS website, Singpost branches, TransitLink Add value machines at all MRT stations. And once topped up, it works like any other credit card! So really, Jayvon himself can use this card. What a good way to teach him budgeting!

How did I choose to “break” my new card?

Online shopping of course! New togs for Jay and Mommy! (heee….)

With all the “risk” associated with giving your credit card details online, this is a superb option for people who are wary of credit card fraud (though I must say I have never experienced this, in all my online shopping timessssss…) But still, it is a good way to buy from your favourite online store, and have ease of mind (and importantly, to not be tempted to overspend… oh gosh, how I know this well!)

Apart from the Visa functions, it also doubles up as an EZ-Link card.

Well, I am happy I have my YOG memorabilia. Get your card, or surprise a family member with this! It cost $28 for each card (with a prepaid value of $5), and $50 if you get both Lyo & Merly! Like how the DBS campaign goes… Own a piece of history. Get more details from the DBS website.

Perspective is a funny thing

image

Distance can play tricks on your eyes.

You can never be very sure what is ahead.

Many may make their speculations.

And what they think how the road ahead lies.

Whether it is a good or a bad thing.

Funny how people can be naturally negative and gravitate towards that.

Time will tell.

And as we inch closer to the end, all becomes clear and the truth shall finally be revealed.
